FA Competitions
Gresley Rovers will begin this season’s Emirates FA Cup campaign on Saturday 7th August in the Extra Preliminary Round. The winners will receive £1,125 and the losers £375. In the Buildbase FA Vase, Gresley will begin on Saturday 11th September. The u18’s start the FA Youth Cup week commencing 30th August in the Preliminary Round. Draws for all competitions are scheduled for Friday 9th July.

Two players have left the club. Charlie Stanton and Joe Fryatt.Charlie did not appear in a game since signing. Joe has decided to leave and we wish him well for the future and thank him for his time spent in a Rovers Shirt. We welcome into the club is experienced goalkeeper Lewis Fenny. Delighted to confirm the addition of central midfield player Billy Howard to Rovers squad for 21/22 season. Formerly of Quorn and Evesham United, Billy knows the management well, and is a talented young player who will add physical strength and energy to our midfield.

Rovers Begin Cup Journey At Home
Gresley Rovers begin their Emirates FA Cup journey at home to Midland Premier League Bewdley Town scheduled for Saturday 7th August. The winners will be at home Leek Town on Saturday 21st August. In the Buildbase FA Vase Rovers are at home to Dudley Sports in the second-round qualifying scheduled for Saturday 11th September. The winners will face either Winsford United or Stapenhill away. Rovers’ u18’s face Alfreton Town in the FA Youth Cup at the Moat Ground scheduled for week commencing 30th August. The winners of that game will travel to either Anstey Nomads or AFC Mansfield.

Two new additions as squad really begins to take shape… Firstly highly rated attacking midfielder Darious Darkin joins the Roverlution. Young professional with Aston Villa who played in an FA Youth Cup final, before playing in non league with Bromsgrove, Hinckley, Halesowen Town, Redditch United, Market Drayton Town and Quorn. Second new addition is 17 year old Kelvin Kasongo who was spotted playing for Allexton New Parks u18’s against our own u18 side at the end of last season. Kelvin is an attacker and has exceptional ability, and we are really excited to have him, and see how he fares at the higher level.

Rovers are pleased to announce that two local lads, Connor Ward and Cameron Steele have signed for the new season.Remaining with the club for the new campaign is versatile midfield man Connor Ward. Ever popular in the squad and with supporters, Wardy is a local lad and a Rovers fan at heart, and exudes this in his performances where he can always be relied upon to leave everything out on the pitch. A valuable addition to our squad. We are happy to welcome local lad Cameron Steele back to Rovers for the new season. Cameron was with Stapenhill last season. A versatile player who will add depth and quality to our squad.

Fixtures for the new UCL campaign have been released. Rovers make arguably their longest trip of the season on Easter Saturday 16th April with a visit to the seaside as they take on Skegness Town A visit to Long Eaton United on Easter Monday 18th April should hopefully be the last game of the season. Christmas fixtures see Long Eaton United visit the Moat Ground on the 28th of December followed by a short trip to Heather St Johns on Monday 3rd January. The season kicks off at Heanor Town on Wednesday the 4th of August. All fixtures are subject to change.

Rovers ended their friendly programme with a draw at Rugby Town. Oli Bailey gave the visitors the lead early in the first half but the home side levelled five minutes later. Anyone who purchased a season ticket last season the board have agreed to exchange it for a new one free of charge due to the interuption by COVID 19. Just bring your old season ticket to the office. New Season tickets are available to order via the on-line Club Shop or from the office on match days. Adult season ticket £105 Concession season ticket is priced at £70. Under 16 season ticket will be £15 if accompanied with an adult season ticket holder. Please note FA and League Cup games are not included. ADMISSION PRICE:- Adult admission price for the 2021/2022 season is £7-50. Concession admission £5-00 and Under 16 remains at £1-00.

Gresley Rovers were UCL Premier Division North Team of The Month for September. Rovers won all their games during the month including an emphatic 7-0 win the the FA Vase. The team scored 25 goals and conceeded just 5. Congratulations to Carl, Paul and all the players.

We have been informed that Rovers Legend Bobby Liddle sadly passed away yesterday. For those of us of the more mature age will remember Bobby as a prolific goal scorer scoring 143 goals in 304 games during the late 1960's and mid 70's. His details can be found in our player database.

Manager Carl Abbott has added to his squad by signing local lad James Harrison on an initial months loan from Bedworth United, and we thank Stuart Storer for his assistance in this. James is a forward who was a first year professional with Burton Albion, before playing in the Southern League with Coleshill Town and Bedworth United. Welcome to the club James.

Gresley Rovers FC have this morning been informed by the United Counties league that Saturdays home league game (11th Dec) against Boston is postponed due to Boston informing the league they are unable to field a team. The club were first informed that Boston could not field as side on 11th December by the league a few days ago and this morning official confirmation of the postponement has been received from the league. Director of Football Gary Norton speaking to Gresley’s website this morning added: “Gresley Rovers Football Club will not be commenting on this matter further at this stage and the matter is in the hands of the UCL other governing bodies to deal with appropriately.”

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Gresley legend Barry 'Gunner' Fitchett on 3rd March aged 80 years. Barry was a hard tackling half back scoring 137 goals from 567 appearances during the the late 1960's and 70's. Everyone at Gresley send their deepest condolences to Barry's family and friends.
