v Shepshed Dynamo (a) 5th January 2004
Steve MacKenzie was born in Romford and signed for Manchester City in July 1979 aged 17 yrs from Crystal Palace for £250,000 that was a record for a teenager at the time. Steve missed just three League matches in the season 1980-81 that ended with the 100th FA Cup final at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur - the game ended 1-1.
Steve scored the equaliser with a superb volley in the replay only to be outshone by Spurs' Ricky Villa who scored arguably the best goal seen in a Wembley final.
At the start of the following season Steve joined West Bromwich Albion for £650000 before moving on to Charlton Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Shrewsbury Town.
Made 350 League appearances
Steve scored for Gresley on his debut in a 3-0 win.
He was Atherstone United manager.
