Anstey Nomads vs Gresley FC

Gresley Youth team returned home from Anstey Nomads with all three points after coming out the winners in a seven goal thriller. Looking to build on last weeks 7-1 win over Caterpillar, Gresley were forced into making one change in the starting line-up with debutant Harry Bourne replacing the suspended Sam Gee at centre back.

Gresley again started well creating a number of chances that could have opened the scoring for the young Moatmen, when the opening goal did come it was from a ball into the box from right by Jordan Taylor, that was helped onto Connor Ward who rifled the ball high past the keeper at his near post from ten yards. Gresley continued to dominate the game and doubled the lead on 32 minutes when top scorer Callum Riddell collected the ball just outside the Nomads box and turned his marker before firing his right footed shot across the keeper into the far corner.

Five minutes later Gresley extended their lead to make it 3-0 when Riddell this time beat his marker on the left hand side of the box before hitting a stinging left footed drive into the far post stanchion before Nomads keeper had chance to move.

After the break Gresley seemed to take their foot off the gas as Nomads gradually got going. It was only a matter of time before they reduced the scoreline and they did just that in the 57th minute they pulled a goal back after some slack Gresley play. Ten minutes later the home some reduced the deficit again this time when a deep free-kick into Gresley box was headed past his own keeper by Jordan Taylor whilst under pressure from two Nomads attackers.

The home team were now ploughing forward in order to grab an equaliser and nearly did so but for a fine full length save from Jack Mills in the Gresley goal.

The next goal of the game came in the 87th minute, but for Gresley when they caught the home side on the counter attack down the left hand side when Bagnall and Riddell combined to square the ball across to the hardworking Harry Hughes who smashed the ball into to bottom corner seemingly settling the game in Gresley's favour. But in true Gresley fashion there would be another twist as the home side got a goal back within seconds of the restart as a long ball into the box wasn't dealt with and a Nomads player latched onto the ball guiding it past a helpless Mills.

The final couples of minutes and injury time was played out at a frantic pace but with no real chances either end, leaving Gresley relieved to grab all three points.
