Gresley Rovers vs Red Lion Horninglow

Gresley Rovers 3 - 2 Red Lion Reserves

Scorers: Foster 2, Jones (pen)

Team: Stu Haywood, Danny Gee, Gaz Jones(C), Carl Wymark, Olly Baum, Tom Fletcher, Rich Hanslow, Mat Holmes, Todd Foster, Chris Smith, Dean Acton.

It was a top of the league clash today, and again we were down to the bare eleven, so we always seem to dig deep when we need to. Luckily we again had Mat Holmes with us and we decided to play Rich Hanslow in midfield to partner Tom Fletcher and play Dean Acton and Todd Foster up front.

On a far from perfect pitch, we never really got started until we went a goal down, but then started to play some reasonable football. On about 20 minutes we drew level from a Foster goal and, although we could have gone ahead on numerous occasions, we went 2-1 down with 10 minutes to half time.

I felt that there was no need to be concerned though because we were making loads of chances, and when Smith broke through only to be brought down by their keeper, a penalty was awarded. The result was for the keeper to be
shown the red card (a bit harsh I think) and Jones coolly slotted home 10 minutes in.

We then had our best spell of the match and had chance after chance but just couldn't find the net. We were playing all the football and were really disciplined against some crude, late tackles. I was about to settle for the draw, when with 6 minutes left, Foster hit a cracking goal worthy of winning any game. To be honest I was glad to just get to the end of the game with no
injuries because, I don't know if they were tiring, but they seemed to be kicking everything but the ball?

So to sum things up, we were worthy winners, of a physical game were I think the football won at the end! I am glad that all the players never got involved with the intimidation and held their discipline to the end. It takes
us back to the top of the league and with no injuries I think we did well. So next week we're in the semi final and top of the league so I'm proud of ALL of you! One last thing, thanks for the support today from our chairman and
the choirboys.

Mom: Chris Smith great to see him at his best again
