Gresley Rovers vs Madina

Gresley Rovers 7 - 2 Madina

Scorers: Holmes 3, Acton 2, Hanslow Morton

Team: Stu Haywood, Olly Baum, Danny Gee, Karl Whymark, Gaz Jones(c),Nathan Venning, Mark Shorthouse, Matt Holmes, Dean Acton, Rich Hanslow, Chris Smith. Subs: Tom Gregory, Zak Venning, Paul Morton.

Started the game with no ref so I ended up reffing and we started brightly but although we had lots of chances it took us 20 minutes to open the score when Chris Smith crossed to find Matt Holmes at the back post who slotted the ball in. We were soon 2-0 up when Dean Acton scored then he made it 3-0 soon after then another from Holmes so 4-0 at half time.

We started the second half where we'd finished the first with good passing football and were soon 5-0 to the good when Rich Hanslow scored so we were cruising. We swapped Mark Shorthouse for Tom Gregory and then a slight lapse, with some sloppy
defending, allowed them to score. Then Stu Haywood made a great save tipping the ball over the bar so 5-1 it remained. Then from a goal kick, Haywood was unlucky when the ball rolled just as he was about to kick it, going straight to an unmarked striker who slotted past him to make it 5-2.

We didn't let this bother us and quickly went 6-2 up when Holmes claimed his hat trick so again we made a change swapping Acton for new signing Paul Morton and
he was unlucky not to get on the score sheet early on with their keeper twice denying him. We then made our last substitution bringing Zak Venning on for Hanslow and putting Smith up front. Morton finally got the goal he deserved and 7-2 it stayed.

Another great team performance which every player played their part, and credit to them the win was no more than they deserved. Thanks to my assistant Ivor for running things while I was reffing cheers mate. Stretton in the cup next so a good test ahead, I'm sure we're all looking forward to.

Man of match: Gaz Jones another quality performance matched by being a true
skipper who certainly leads by example!
