Coleshill Town vs Gresley Rovers

Well I think this result will make teams think hard before they play us, especially away from home. Coleshill currently playing in the premier league, which is one above ourselves and sitting in second spot, went into this League Cup fixture as strong favourites.

This was the picture we also got after going down after only 7 minutes to a fast attack right down our throats, two forwards playing a sweet 1-2 which left a 1 on 1 situation and a great finish gave us the start that we did not want.

Credit due, the lads worked hard to nullify the opposition's midfield play and then start to show signs of danger. Coleshill limited us to a couple of counter attacks in the first 35 minutes and then stopped giving us the respect that other teams should give us.

Alex Bolt, causing trouble on the right hand side, saw his cross half cleared to the edge of the box where Johnnie Guthrie shielded the ball well only to be pushed blatantly and credit due to the ref a penalty was duly awarded. In form Bolt took no hesitation in placing the ball on the spot and converting into the bottom left.

Half time came with little more happening in the game, substitutions at the interval saw junior player James Roland come into midfield for the struggling Tom Skinner. This seemed to take immediate effect with Roland finding a lot of space with Lee Mitchell closely marking the number 7 who dominated the first half. Gresley just got better and better, dominating periods that saw Coleshill create nothing and Gresley looking dangerous each and every time we gained possession.

Alex Bolt received a delightful ball from Guthrie then took on all three defenders and shoot only to see the ball thunder onto the angle of the woodwork. With 12 minutes left we got the breakthrough when, after a goalmouth scramble, Lee Mitchell got a touch from short range to get the winner. Even at this point when losing and with only minutes left on the watch Coleshill could not get the better of us and we had most of the possession in the dying minutes.

Final score: Coleshill Town 1 - 2 Gresley Rovers

Great result for the lads and all involved.

Team rating 9/10 great attitude and commitment backed up by great play, well done boys.
