Gresley Rovers vs Dudley Sports

Although the score line shows this as being a very close game it was totally the opposite as we dominated after the 10 minutes when we had settled into our rhythm.

With the strong wind against us in the first half it was a little difficult to catch Dudley on the break and by the time we had worked the ball forward they had just retreated in numbers protecting their box. In the second half though it was a different story as we pressed forward looking for the first goal.

With 3 attackers working the front line, Dudley found it hard to get out of their own half and pressure told as we created chance after chance but failed to convert. Tom Skinner came very close with two long range efforts the second of which was a brilliantly worked move involving Brian Barker down the left cutting inside beating the defender and crossing into the box. Ben Calliwelly played a perfect cushion header setting up Skinner to strike from outside the box only to see it rise agonisingly skimming the cross bar. Ben Calliwelly was then involved in the goal, crossing for young prospect and again man of the match Jack Coulson who arced his run into the box shrugging off his marker and heading into the far corner. Chances fell in and around the box but we failed to make the most of the good work.

Top performances this week went to Jack Coulson who at 16 plays like a 21 year old full of confidence, great ability and strong at the back. His technique looks very good he has a great attitude to the game with enough pace to cover in defence - I hope this player goes a long way at Gresley and I wish him all the best.

Next fixture sees us up against Bloxwich. They beat us convincingly early on in the season and will give us a good test; a win here could see us push into 3rd place depending on other games around us in the league.
