Gresley started well and looked to have learned their lessons form the previous game against Tamworth.

Mark Cox the young Gresley goalkeeper was a spectator for the vast majority of the first half.

Gresley were trying to play the ball but weren’t creating a lot of chances. But after a good spell of football 30 minutes into the first half Gresley took the lead when Andy Foster drove the ball home with a low angled shot on the right.

Then with half time approaching Chris Vernon was booked for the second time for a challenge on the goalkeeper, which seemed harsh.

This left Gresley with 10 men to defend their slender lead, which they did until the last kick of the game.

The last kick being a penalty that was awarded by referee R Gould for a handball by Tom Skinner that led to his second yellow card.

Manager Bob Corner was also in trouble with Mr. Gould as he was dismissed to the stand. Bob said: "I felt that I had let the club down and have apologised to Gary Norton and the players for doing so."

Bob felt that the both the sending off’s were harsh with Chris Vernon not making contact with the keeper and with Tom Skinner unable to get his hand out of the way of the ball.

Gresley’s next home game is a league cup tie against Coleshill Town on 8th October.
