After being held up in traffic, the coach breaking down, six players out through work commitments, holidays and injuries the youth team finally made it to Stourbridge in cars for an 8:30 kick off.

Manager Bob Corner and coach Dean Amoss decided to play a 5-4-1 formation and it proved successful.

Gresley looked solid at the back with Chris Vernon and Andy Foster outstanding with Tom Skinner picking up all the bits as a sweeper and playing a captain’s role.

John Short the Gresley goalkeeper had only one save to make when he came out and palmed a shot out for a corner kick.

Gresley had the better of the midfield play but were limited in the first half to a couple of long-range efforts from Kev Mitchell and Tom Skinner.

The second half was much the same but as the game went on Gresley looked more the likely to take the lead. Stuart Lynn nearly managed to poke the ball home when their goal keeper dropped the ball.

Then with five minuets left Richard Seagrave came on for the hardworking Leon Ulyett and within in one minute found himself inside the six yard box and with the goalkeeper kicking the player and not the ball Gresley were awarded a penalty.

Tom Skinner scored with ease from the spot and Gresley were on their way to their first league win of the season.

Bob Corner said this was a team performance with every player doing their job well and working very hard. The players are now looking forward to playing at home on 23rd September.
