Bloxwich Town vs Gresley Rovers
Gresley played their first away fixture of the season at Bloxwich Town where they lost 4-2.
Within 5 minutes of the start of the game Gresley found themselves trailing 1-0 after a long range shot deceived Adam Redfern the Gresley keeper who could only push the ball in to his own net.
Despite this setback Adam settled down and played well making some good saves keeping Gresley in the game.
Gresley then began to play well and should have gone 3-1 up with good chances being wasted by Leon Ulyett and Joe Brockley and a good shoot by Tom Bartram that just went wide.
The visitors did however draw level when Tom Bartram battled his way into the box only to be brought down by the Bloxwich centre half. Tom Skinner stepped up to convert the penalty.
Unfortunately Gresley then found themselves behind again 10 minutes before half time when they allowed Bloxwich to play the ball from deep in their own half between two Gresley defenders which allowed their centre forward to run clear through and slot the ball pass the keeper.
Things got worse for Gresley after the break when they conceded two quick goals as a result of some very poor defending but still managed to pull another goal back through John Guthrie when he scored at the far post from a Stuart Lynn cross.
Gresley manager Bob Corner said that Gresley could and should have scored 4 or 5 goals, but if we can’t defend as a unit the games are going to be hard to win.
He as arranged a friendly on Tuesday 2nd September away at Holbrook involving new players.
