Burton Albion vs Gresley Rovers
Gresley took on a good Burton Albion youth side at Paulet School. Gresley started with 3 new players in the line up Joe Blockley, Tom Bartrum and Kevin Mitchell.
The game was played at a fast pace with Burton having most of the ball early on but failed to penetrate the Gresley defence. Burton did however get the first goal after 15 minutes when Gresley failed to stop Barker’s run into the box from which he hit a tremendous shot from a narrow angle into the roof of the net. Burton extended their lead 10 minutes from half time when Gresley failed to pick up Chris Vernon from a corner and the tall midfielder had a free header.
There was some good play from both sides in the second half although neither keeper had much to do. Burton scored the final goal 10 minutes from time, when again, Gresley failed to pick up Smith who played a neat one two and ran into the Gresley box and crossed for Martin to slot the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Burton were to strong for Gresley on the night, but good performances from Chris Mawbey and Tom skinner were pluses and if Gresley work on being tighter defensively we might have the making of a good side with players coming through to the reserves.
