Gresley Rovers vs Sutton Coldfield Town
A much better performance from the young Rovers tonight with a couple of new faces in the squad being on trial and considering that Sutton have only lost two games this season.
Gresley youth did very well to stop them playing too much, however, through some bravado defending by Sutton chances were starting to come Rovers way as they were only leaving one defender at the back at times as they were pushing forward. This gave Gresley the chance to run at goal.
After a corner kick that Sutton failed to clear properly, the ball fell to Nathan Tate who struck the ball well and past the visitors' keeper.
Half time score: Gresley Rovers 1 - 0 Sutton Cold Field Town.
Second half Rovers carried on much the same, bringing on substitutes Brenton and new boy Carl English whom I'm told has been having trials at Everton.
Sutton brought on a very tall striker who had a good touch combined with good pace who started to threaten and run at the Rovers defence and it was soon 1 -1.
Approx five minutes before time Sutton scored what turned out to be the winner although it looked like they had three players well offside.
A good performance from Rovers who were very unlucky but if they could have put their chances away would have won the game quite convincingly. Rovers could have quite easily scored four goals. This is a chance missed to have won a great victory at the Moat Ground.
Rovers youth have the chance to put things to right next week as they are on their travels to Hednesford Town Monday February 3rd and Willenhall Thursday February 6th and anyone who can get there your support will be greatly appreciated by the team and the management.
Final score: Gresley Rovers 1 – 2 Sutton Coldfield Town.
