Continental Star vs Gresley FC

Saturday's early kick off saw Gresley Reserves move to two points of the Midland League Reverse Division title with in the end a comprehensive 4-0 win away at Continental Star Reserves.

Ian Parker came in between the posts for his first appearance of the season, Connor Ward started at left back and Josh Garland returned in midfield.

The home side started the brighter forcing Gresley back playing some decent football up to the penalty box and won a few set pieces, but never really tested Parker in the Gresley goal.

In the 18th minute Josh Garland had to be replaced as he fell awkwardly on his ribs when defending a set piece, his replacement Zach Hill immediately set his stall out with a few crunching tackles.

The opening goal of the game came in the 32nd minute when Harry Lansdowne's cross come shot from 30 yards sailed over the keepers head and into the top corner.

Gresley had further chances to extend their lead before the break with Lansdowne hitting the bar after a strong run down the right from Harry Hughes. Josh Dutton had a chance that he flashed wide when well placed.

The second half began with a flurry of chances for Gresley again with a number of players having opportunities to double the lead. Soon after the home side had a spell of pressure with a number of corners but their best chance came from a move down their left hand side when their winger got one on one with the advancing Gresley keeper Parker, lifting the ball over him only to see it just drift wide of the post.

In the 74th minute Gresley all but sealed the three points with the vital second goal when half time sub Kane Lee chased down down a loose ball and rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Three minutes later top scorer Josh Dutton made it 3-0 after flashing a side footed finish past the home keeper at the near post following a low cross from the left from Harry Lansdowne.

The final goal of the game came from young Aaron Harvey when he neatly rounded the keeper and finished from a acute angle.
