Lichfield City vs Gresley FC
Lichfield City 2 - 2 Gresley FC
Gresley Reserves traveled to Lichfield City for a Challenge Trophy game after two blank weekends.
Despite the lack of match action, the young Moatmen started well and dominated the first half with some excellent pressing, not allowing the home side to settle on the ball. Gresley were unfortunate not to get a penalty when Dutton was crudely bundled over in the box but the referee waved away protests.
Gresley just couldn't get their final ball right and that resulted in the half time scoreline being blank.
Lichfield were better in the second half but it was Gresley who broke the deadlock when Josh Dutton got onto Kane Lee's through ball and tucked the ball into the far corner of the goal. The home side equalised only a few minutes later when sloppy defending resulted in Lichfield scoring from a powerful header at the back post past the returning Alex Townsend.
Gresley restored their lead in the 60th minute when a free kick from the left found Josh Dutton and he flicked the ball home deftly.
The final goal of the game came when Lichfields substitute left winger jinked inside two Gresley defenders and was tripped, the resulting penalty sent Townsend the wrong way.
Both sides had chances to grab three group stage points but the best chance fell to Gresley when a freekick into the box broke to Harry Hughes who's thunderous volley rattled the crossbar.
The result leaves Gresley on 10pts from 4 games in Challenge Trophy Group A.
