Brocton vs Gresley FC

Reserves on the wrong end of a Bank Holiday goal fest...
Gresley Reserves far too strong for the Badger Reserves

by Paul Smith - www.pitchero.com/clubs/broctonfc

The 6th minute saw Gresley take the lead with their first attack. But this didn't faze Brocton and they hit back within 5 minutes that came from a good delivery into the box from Mason in which the keeper fumbled under a strong challenge from Young, the ball broke to Addison who still had work to do but fired home for the equaliser.

This was the last time that Brocton would be on an equal footing and on 13 minutes Gresley took the lead again to bring the game to 2-1 for the visitors. It became apparent that an unrecognisable side from last term and inherited from Atherstone Town Reserves and U21 squads, the quality of the Gresley side was far superior to that of Brocton.

This game was then effectively over as a contest on the 20th minute with Gresley's 3rd goal. It seemed by now that the visitors would score with every attack! It was obvious that the 5-3-2 formation was not working and on the 30th minute a change to 4-4-2 and substitution of O'Callaghan for Ellis was made in an attempt to shuffle the pack, by this time the score was 1-5 and although only 15 minutes remained of the half there was still time for the visitors to add another 2 to their tally, one of them being an unstoppable 35yd drive.

Going in 7-1 down the prospect of the second half looked bleak to say the least but to their credit the Brocton came out and tried to compete as best they could. With 2 centre midfielders carrying injuries and Hewett withdrawn on 60 minutes it was a better effort. But another 3 goals were conceded 2 through errors gifted to the opposition.

This Gresley outfit would have no problem competing in the Midland Combination Premier League and are a much stronger side that were unrecognisable from last season and will be strong title contenders this season.
