Today we visited Highgate United after a disappointing result against Quorn F C last week with ten men.

Today was a chance to put last week behind us and carry on our good work and that is what we have done this afternoon. With us not being able to train for a week and a half due to the first teams mid-week fixtures over the last couple of weeks I was grateful to get the squad together on Thursday and work on a few things.

After a good productive training session on Thursday night I felt the squad had put last Saturday behind them and we were all looking forward to this game.

This week we started the first 15-20 minutes well and we seemed to settle quickly and looked comfortable on the ball.

In training we worked on our shape and keeping things simple and that is what has pleased me today we kept things simple and we kept our shape a lot better and we went in at half time 0-0.

Second half we started the brighter and were unfortunate not to take advantage of some decent chances, although Highgate did create some half chances and were unlucky on a few occasions not to score, but on the 75 minute mark some good passing through the middle of the park out to the right found Tom Read down the channel who did exceptionally well to get round the back of their left back and square the ball across the box to Chris Burnham who had the simple job of slotting the ball home to make it 1-0.

With still 10-15 minutes to go I felt we may go on to score 2 or 3 but to be fair to Highgate they still pressed forward but for some last ditch defending by the back four especially the captain Lee Stretton who led by example today we kept them at bay and picked up all 3 points and also a clean sheet which is always a bonus.

A pleasing performance and one which was well deserved.
