Quorn vs Gresley Rovers
This game has to go down as almost as poor a performance as the opening game of the season against Rushall. Taking nothing away from Quorn, they were a well organised out fit and played some smart football, deserving the win. Their number 10 imparticular was very impressive.
Gresley started well enough and took the lead after persistence and strength from Kye Hall saw the keepers kick rebound of his chest into the goal.
The Reserves had come off the back of a good run of results and would have gone top with a good result so it was all to play for. However, it was a day for mistakes and it wasn't one player it was most of the team.
Quorn equalised when their number 10 did some good work on the left side and set up an easy finish for his partner. Quorns number 10 read the game very well and shortly after Chris Mawbey failed to judge a header correctly and as it came off the back of his head the number 10 was onto it quickly and finished well.
Gresley had chances too but never really looked like anything was going to come off. Our final pass failed, or we failed to read the delivery or we just missed the target. Generally as a team we didn't seem on it.
Quorn made it 3-1 before the break after Danny Cox was caught in possession and punished as well as anyone could be. So not looking good at all at the break. Though Quorn were the better side today I never felt we couldn't come back if we could find the sort of performance we had been showing of late.
Gresley came out after the break having made changes and for twenty minutes looked as though they might get back into the game. However, no goals came and Quorn added a fourth when a poor back pass from Grosse was punished by the Quorn striker. That killed us off and quorn soon added a fifth as they passed through us with ease to casually score their fifth,
Greg Smith scored a fine header from Williams corner to make the score slightly better but that was about the best we could offer. Quorn were much better than us today and will be right up there as the season progresses. However, this was also a very poor performance from the Reserve team. Our defence has been quality so far, but today it was poor, and not one but altogether. I think you just have to accept it as a one off and bounce back and I'm quite sure the lads will.
