Gresley Rovers vs Hinckley United
Heavy
weather at Moat - Andy Parker - Burton
Mail
Midland Combination Reserve Division - 21 February
2001
Gresley
Rovers supporters hoping to see their team get back
on the goal trail endured a frustrating evening at
the Moat Ground last night (Weds).
The
full strength Rovers side made hard work of overcoming
Hinckley United reserves with a Kevin Allsop tap-in
and a Mark Peters penalty eventually bringing a 2-0
win and three Midland Combination Reserve Division
points.
Player-manager
John McGinlay played for the full game although there
was a scare in the 32nd minute when the former Scottish
international, playing midfield, went down under a
late challenge from behind for which Hinckley's Guy
Holland was shown a yellow card.
A
recovered McGinlay could now be in the frame for Saturday's
Dr Martens Western Division game against Bedworth
United at the Moat although he would only confirm:
"I'll be in the squad".
The
Moat boss said: "I'm pleased to have got through
the game. It's another one under my belt, but I still
need a few more."
Rovers
certainly looked more threatening in front of goal
than they had in either of their last two league outings,
Simon Tucker twice shooting narrowly wide and twice
hitting a post with McGinlay and Peters both frustrated
by keeper James Green before Allsop broke the deadlock.
Peters
converted from the spot after Shaun Pearce had unluckily
been pulled up for handball.
