Gresley Rovers vs Bedworth United
Reserves
Leave It Cery Very Late
Challenge
Bowl - Rovers Reserves 2 - Bedworth United Reserves
1
It
was a case of the late late show for the Reserve Team
in this Challenge Bowl encounter against a determined
Bedworth side. Ian Wright again had an impressive
game in goal, doing his confidence the world of good
and Greg Smith starting only his third game of the
season played very well upfront. Chris Allum continued
in midfield, desperate to push for another chance
in the first team fold. Ex Reserve team Skipper, Michael
Wardle also played after returning to the club to
add a bit of experience to the squad.
Rovers
dominated the play for long periods but failed to
turn their supremacy into goals and at half time only
had a scrappy Dave Evans goal to show for the first
half efforts. The second half was as the first and
the longer the game went on it was more and more evident
that unless chances were taken it could prove costly.
Paul Wilson was added upfront with 20 minutes to go
to vary things a bit and give some additional support
to the impressive Greg Smith. With 9 minutes to go
Bedworth equalised, Smith lashing home the loose ball
after a mix-up in the Rovers box. Rovers went in search
of the winner by adding Gary Norton to a 3 strong
attack and the gamble worked in the last minute when
with his first touch, Norton layed a corner first
time into the path of the onrushing Wilson who blasted
the winner into the top corner of the Bedworth net.
