Bedworth United vs Gresley Rovers

Last night we were away to Bedworth in the league, not a team having the greatest of seasons yet a team that managed to beat us 2-1 at home back in January, so a score had to be settled.

In my team talk I told the lads to be pro-active and not reactive, take the game to them, don't wait to see what they are going to do then react; you make their minds up for them.

Well the lads came out of the traps flying and within 30 seconds Smithen had won the ball just inside their half and danced and jinked his way through 3 of their players before being felled like a young oak on the edge of the box, free kick. Dunn lined up the ball 20 to 25 yards out, he ran up and proceeded to slam the ball into the top corner in a Beckham style, 1 nil up inside a minute.

The rest of the half went as follows defence win ball pass to midfield, midfield create chance for themselves or for the forwards, Gresley fail to score, this was repeated at least 4 or 5 times in the first half, Bedworth could have had no complaints if they'd have gone in at the interval 5-0 down, as it was we went in 1 nil up.

Just to mention at this point the rare occasion that Bedworth entered our half it was the fantastic defending from Shakespeare and Perry that thwarted their attacks as they constantly played the ball into their striker for the night the 1st team manager, Hallam ex Tamworth 1st team striker and big handful, so well done boys.

In the second half we continued to dominate and miss chance after chance, eventually with about 70 minutes gone we got the second through a great finish from Yearsley.

The lads totally dominated throughout on what was a terrible pitch and showed great character as they have done in the last few games, a special mention to Greg Smith for his unbelievable work rate from start to finish and to Brad Clarke for the 2 quality saves he pulled off in the last 5 minutes.

Keep up the good work boys.
