Gresley Rovers vs Solihull Borough
Rovers Reserves, beaten just once in the last 11 games continued their recent good run with a hard earned 1-1 draw at home to Solihull Borough Reserves.
A superbly struck goal from Carl Eagling just before the interval gave Rovers a slender lead that they kept until 8 minutes from time when Solihull equalised with one of their rare clear cut chances.
The game was dominated in the midfield areas with few chances for either side. Mickey Sandar, Carl Slater and Andy Dunn controlled the midfield to most of the first period. Mykey Pryce had Rovers best chance early on but he didn’t trouble the keeper when he should have done better. Nathan Tate probed several times down the left creating half chances as did Jon Jenkinson on the right but the 1st clear-cut chance came on 42 minutes when a ball into the box was controlled by the chest of Carl Eagling. With 3 defenders around him his second touch was to pull the ball onto his left foot before rifling his shot into the bottom corner of the net, a truly superb goal.
The second half started giving Rovers problems as Nathan Tate injured his groin on 47 minutes to be replaced by Greg Smith. Mykey Pryce then picked an injury up on 60 minutes and had to be replaced by youth teamer Matt Brown. Solihull pressed and started to take control of the game without really threatening the Rovers goal.
The back three of Grosse, Parkinson and Shakespeare defended superbly and were unfortunate to be breached on 82 minutes when great individual skill by Solihull’s Darren Jones set up Warren Givens to slot home under the advancing Clarke.
