Worcester City vs Gresley Rovers

A Carl Slater penalty earned the Reserves a draw at Worcester City but the Rovers second string were left to rue a hatful of missed opportunities that should have turned a point into three.

Ryan Yearsley should have put Rovers in front on 14 minutes after the ball dropped kindly to him in the box after a Mykey Pryce effort had been blocked but he somehow managed to squeeze the ball the wrong side of the post with the goal at his mercy.

Worcester almost took the lead when McGee hit the bar with a speculative effort on the half hour mark. This spurred Rovers into action and a good move down the right finished with Carl Eagling providing a near post cross for Pryce but his effort flew just over the bar.

Worcester took the lead from the penalty spot on 34 minutes. Brad Clarke had made a superb double save from Phillips and the ball seems to be going out of play on the edge of the box when Nathan Tate's needless challenge resulted in a spot kick being awarded. The impressive Angus Martin took the kick and coolly slotted home.

Rovers should have had a quick equaliser after Carl Eagling had done all the hard work in rounding the keeper but the Worcester fullback was allowed time to get back and his effort was cleared off the line.

Rovers got the equaliser they more than deserved on 73 minutes when Nathan Tate was hauled back in the box giving the referee no option but to point to the spot. Carl Slater fired home the penalty. Slater almost sealed the points after great work down the left from Yearsley saw his cross find Slater in the box but his shot was saved by the feet of Hayes in the Worcester goal.
