Gresley Rovers vs Redditch United
Andy Mason, Assistant Manager to John McGinlay during his reign, made a return to the Moat ground as manager of Redditch Utd Reserves but went home empty handed as the Rovers Reserves ran out emphatic 4-1 winners in this ICIS Reserve Division encounter.
Mykey Pryce failed a fitness test and had to make do with a place on the bench and last week’s emergency centre half, Ryan Yearsley was restored upfront partnering Jon Jenkinson. Paul Grosse made a return to partner Dave Roberts in Central defence after work commitments ruled him out last weekend.
Gresley dominated the game from the start and could have taken the lead in the very 1st minute but Jenkinson shot wide from 18yards.
Nathan Tate and Earl Alexander linked well down the left to create an opportunity and it was Alexander who tested the visiting keeper with a fine effort from the edge of the box.
Rovers took the lead on 29 minutes when Alexander cut through the Redditch defence and fired a great shot into the top corner of the net from 15 yards out.
Ryan Yearsley made it 2-0 just before half time after Carl Slater’s shot was saved by Paul Mayland and Yearsley was on hand to poach the rebound.
Yearsley added to the Gresley lead on 50 minutes when he cut inside from the left and fired home with a great finish.
3 became 4 on 55 minutes when a mazy run from Alexander resulted in a cross that was turned into his own net by McCleaver under pressure from Youth Team substitute Matt Brown.
Yearsley had a fine strike for his hat-trick ruled out for offside before Stuart Hull pulled a goal back on 71 minutes for the visitors but it was only ever going to be a consolation.
