Gresley Rovers vs Hinckley United

Gresley Reserves suffered their 1st defeat of the opening 10 games of the season when they lost 2-1 to Hinkley United Reserves. Trialist Ben Simpson was included in the starting line up.

The game opened in a scrappy manner and it was Hinkley who looked most like scoring during the early exchanges. They took the lead after 20 minutes when the Gresley defence got caught square by a long ball and Paul Hunter broke clear to score past Brad Clarke in the Rovers goal.

This seemed to kick Gresley into action and they started to try and get the ball down and play.

Gresley equalised on 24 minutes when Mycey Pryce picked up a long clearance from Clrake and kept his cool to steer his shot into the net past James Flander.

Brad Clarke had to be alert on 39 minutes when he made an excellent stop to deny Hunter his second goal of the game. HT 1-1

Gresley started the second half in a more positive manner, Carl Timms testing Flander with a well struck effort after a trademark Timms twisting run.

Mick Leach had a shot well saved on 49 mins after being set up by Nathan Tate down the left. Matt Moran was influential in many of Gresleys best attacking moments down the right but it was Nathan Tate excellent run and cross down the left that gave Mickey Sandar the best chance of the game but his shot flew over the bar.

Hinkley broke to score on 76 minutes when a shot by Rob Alban hit the bar and Neil Day reacted quickest to score from close range. Rovers pushed for the equaliser and had efforts from Nathan Tate and Micky Sandar cleared off the line.
