Gresley Rovers vs Tamworth

Rovers Reserves made it a 7 game unbeaten start to the season with a sound victory against a good Tamworth outfit at the Moat ground.

Rovers started on the offensive right from the first whistle and set out their stall to take the game to Tamworth. They took a deserved lead from a training ground routine on 9 minutes when James Parkinson's monster throw was flicked on at the near post by Ryan Yearsley for Mykey Pryce to rise at the far post to head past the Tamworth Keeper.

Carl Timms dropped his shoulder to wrong foot the whole Tamworth defence and almost extend the lead on 13 minutes when his long range effort smacked off the bar.

Mick Leach robbed the ball in midfield and played Earl Alexander in, but his shot was well saved.

Rovers went 2-0 up on 21 minutes when Matt Moran's cross was misjudged by the Tamworth keeper and Ryan Yearsley was on hand to pounce from close range.

2 became 3 on 31 minutes after Matt Moran rounded off a great move by driving into the net from 18 yards out.

Rovers took their feet off the gas and it showed as Tamworth hit back with 2 quick goals just before the break.

Ian Roberts fluffed clearance landed at the feet of Swan who shot home to reduce the deficit on 37 minutes. 5 minutes later it was 3-2 when a route one ball caught out the Rovers defence and the same player fired home from 18 yards.

Mykey Price made it 4-2 a minute after the restart when he latched onto Paul Grosse's long ball down the left before cooly firing his shot into the far corner of the Tamworth net.

Rovers were in top gear again and Mick Leach weaved his way down the right before crossing to Yearsley but his effort was cleared off the line.

Paul Grosse thought he had made it 5-2 but his header from a Nathan Tate free kick was dissallowed for pushing. Mick Leach again mesmerised down the right before crossing for Pryce who held off his defender well before firing a shot on the turn which brought out an excellent saved to deny him his hat trick.
