Gresley Rovers vs Quorn
The Reserves held on to their unbeaten start to the season but made it hard for themselves after coming back from 2-0 down in an excellent encounter at the Moat ground.
Missing strikers Micky Sandar and John Jenkinson through suspension Rovers played Mat Moran and Greg Smith upfront. Danny Tyres return in Midfield and John Smith was brought in at right back.
The game started at a fast and furious pace and Rovers got caught napping in the 5th minute when good build-up play and movement found Raum in space to slot home unchallenged in the Gresley box.
Things went from bad to worse on 22 minutes when Quorn went 2-0 up when again sloppy defending cost Rovers dearly. A Price pass found the Rovers defence asleep leaving Dawson time to slot past the advancing Ian Roberts.
A bold move by Manager Gary Norton saw the introduction of James Parkinson and Mick Lonergan after 25 minutes and a change of formation. The changes paid instant dividends when Lonergan reduced the arrears on 30 minutes when he shot home from the edge of the box.
Rovers after a slow start were now on the ascendancy and started to take the initiative to Quorn with Moran, Timms and Dan Lonergan all going close.
Rovers were a different side in the second half and the pace of the game was fast and furious as attack after attack was launched on the Quorn goal. Matt Moran got a deserved equaliser on 60 minutes when his free kick from the left found the far corner of Elkingtons net.
Rovers continued to press for the winner with Alexander, Tate, Timms and Moran all going close to scoring. Quorn held out to earn a draw in what proved to be a high quality entertaining game of football.
