Kevin played for Bradford Park Avenue between 1962-1966.
Kevin left BPA on 10th September 1966 signed by Tim Ward at Derby County for £34,000 and one of the few players Brian Clough retained as they became a force in Division 1
During 1965-1966 season scored his 100th league goal aged 21 and 156 days. Only Dixie Dean and Jimmy Greaves were younger. He scored 44 goals in season 1965-1966 as top scorer in the Football League.
He made a record number of appearances for Derby County, and only Steve Bloomer bettered him in the goal stakes. He joined Derby in 1966, scoring on his debut, and in his first season he scored 16 goals in 30 appearances.
In 1971-1972, Hector was third highest scorer, with twelve goals as Derby won the League Championship. As the Rams won their second league title, he scored 13 goals in 38 appearances , but Bruce Rioch was top of the pile with 15 goals. Colin Addison brought him back to Derby.
Hector left Derby having scored 155 league goals and 46 cup goals. They were scored in 486 and 589 games respectively, Eight league appearances were as a substitute.
