Former Leicester City schoolboy, went on to represent Leicestershire at Youth and Senior levels. Whilst studying at Crewe & Alsager College, represented the British Colleges side in 1988.
Signed for Rovers from Burton Albion in June 1990. Made thirty appearances for the reserves during the 1990-1991 season, 8 of which were clean sheets.
Made first XI debut in the 2-0 West Midlands Premier Division home win over
Tividale on 18th December, 1990.
Made F A Vase debut in the 4th Round home win over Billingham Town. Remained part of the squad that went on to reach Wembley and gained a West Midlands League championship medal. Voted reserve XI Player of the Season
1990-1991.
Last game for Gresley was on 1st February, 1992 in the 1-4 away defeat at
Chasetown.
Retired from playing at the age of 30, due to a recurring back problem.
Tony now runs his own football coaching business and is involved with his local club Coalville Town, as 1st team goalkeeping coach, academy coach and soccer school head coach. His son, Elliott, is a professional footballer with Leicester City Football Club.
