Joined Barnsley 1955 for £600 a club record until Phil Gee joined Derby County in 1985.
Gordon rejoined Gresley for the 1963- 1964 season.
In 1965-66 season Gordon scored a remarkable 74 goals. The highlights being:
Oct 2nd: Scored the last 7 goals in a 9-0 win away at Clay Cross.
Oct 9th: Scored both goals in a 2-1 win at home to Eastwood.
Oct 16th: Scored all six at Wilmorton.
Oct 23rd: Hit both goals in the 3-2 defeat at Boston.
Oct 30th: Scored two out of the three against Burton Albion Reserves.
Nov 6th: 1 against Linby.
Nov 13th: Injured.
Nov 20th: 5 out of 7 against Anstey.
Despite all these goals Gresley finished as runners-up to Boston who then signed Gordon.
He did not stay there however and was soon back at Gresley for the 1966-1967 season.
During this spell he formed a lethal partnership with Bobby Liddle and in 1967-1968 the partnership scored over 60 goals between them as Gresley won the league by a clear 8 points.
On 17th April 1970 Brian Clough brought his Second Division Championship side to the Moat Ground for a testimonial game for both Gordon and Dennis King.
Became manager of Gresley Rovers 1970.
Resigned 1975 to return to playing for the side he had played for as a teenager, Edingale Swifts.
Gordon returned to Gresley as a committee man in 1978, later becoming Chairman and then the Club President.
Gordon sadly died on 31st March 2010 aged 77 years.
