Arthur was born in Coalville on 10th February 1887 and died at Whitwick on 3rd December 1971 aged 83.
A local outside-right (successively a driller in a Coalville wagon works and a miner) who had an extended first-team trial for Leicester Fosse at the end of 1910-11, inheriting Fred Threlfall's role.
Arthur failed to win a contract for the next campaign and returned to local football.He did briefly reappear, though, in March 1917 for a single wartime outing in Fosse colours against Nottingham Forest, and in the following month assisted Notts County against Fosse at Filbert Street.
He was noted in 1928 as a cricketer for Snibston Colliery CC.
