Moat boys get fans boost

Fan power will play a major role in Gresley Rovers’ drive towards the last eight of the FA Vase tomorrow.
Weather permitting, when the Moatmen make the trek to Merseyside to face Knowsley the campaign caravan will include fans in their hundreds.“It will be the biggest number we have ever taken and the game really has stirred up a great deal of support,” said Rovers secretary Peter Jenkinson.
“The supporters are taking two coachloads and we have filled the players’ coach as well. So we should have 170 going from the club, and there are at least five minibuses going from local pubs.”
Rovers manager Frank Northwood said: “Our support has been terrific all through this Vase run and I would not be surprised if there weren’t more Gresley fans than Knowsley fans at Saturday’s game,” said Northwood.
One cloud hanging over the Moatmen’s big day out is the weather and the clubs were today awaiting the verdict on the Knowsley pitch.
“There was a pitch inspection due at noon today but yesterday the chances of a game were 50-50 because they have got problems with the water,” said Jenkinson.
