Rovers face Reds double

A team of Liverpool lookalikes bar Gresley Rovers’ path to the last eight of the FA Vase.
Rovers scout Kenny Blair says he has never seen a side that resembles the Football League champions quite so much as Knowsley – even down to their strip.“They play in Liverpool’s grey away strip and even have players that look like Steve Nichol and Ronnie Whelan,” Blair said.
More worryingly for Rovers fans, the North West Counties League side also PLAY like Liverpool, says Blair.
“They work very hard for each other – they’re a very good side,” said the former Burton Albion boss.
Blair singles out the Mersysiders’ centre half and centre forward as their outstanding players but reckons that Knowsley can be beaten.
Just when Rovers get to put Blair’s theory to the test was dependent on a 12.30pm pitch inspection today, with the chances of kicking off tomorrow said to be “unlikely” by Knowsley officials this morning.
If tomorrow’s game is postponed efforts will be made to play the tie on the following Saturday. If drawn, the replay will be on the following Tuesday, kick off (7.45pm).
Tomorrow’s reserve team fixture at Lye is also likely to be called off.
