Rovers on firm Land

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood last night heaped praise on stalwart defender Gil Land.
Land was the cornerstone of the midweek Evans Halshaw Floodlit Cup win at Leicester United and Northwood said: “I sometimes wish we had 11 Gil Lands at Gresley.“For commitment and consistency there’s no-one better. He’s been a superb asset to this club since he joined us from Burton and I’m sure if the players were voting for their man of the season right now they would go for Gil.”
Northwood will be hoping that Land hits top form again tomorrow when Rovers visit Banks’s League title rivals Lye Town.
It is one of Rovers’ biggest tests of the season, but Northwood played the game down, simply saying: “We’re looking forward to it.”
Another crunch game comes Gresley’s way on Tuesday when they visit Halesowen Harriers.
It is an exciting time for Rovers’ fans with the trip to Racing Club Warwick coming up in the Vase tomorrow week.
Gresley also have to fit in a League Cup trip to Blakenall with the incentive of a quarter-final tie at home to Stourport Swifts awaiting the winners.
