FA Cup trek starts

Gresley Rovers step into the unknown tomorrow as the FA Cup adventure gets underway for another season.
Rovers take the short trip to Borrowash Vics but manager Frank Northwood confessed last night: “I don’t even know what league they play in.”Northwood’s lack of advance information does not mean, however, that Gresley’s obsessive desire to win the Banks’s League title will prove a distraction.
Said the Rovers’ boss “Some people say clubs in our position are better off out of the Cup, but I take a different view. A cup run is good for the prestige of a club and fans just love it, so we want to go as far as we can.”
Since Northwood’s reign as manager began Gresley have once got tantalisingly close to a place in the first round proper, losing 2-0 away to Londoners Leyton-Wingate in the fourth qualifying round in 1986.
But Rovers current form – four straight wins and 18 goals – suggests they could be in the mood to make significant progress in this season’s competition – starting at Vic’s Borrowash Road ground in Spondon.
Northwood said: “I’m obviously very pleased with the way things have gone so far. We are playing attractive, attacking football that will always be my philosophy.”
