Gresley line up new men

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood last night launched his latest bid for the Banks’s League title by lining up two signings.
Northwood is hopeful of persuading former Moat Ground winger Andy Moore to return to Gresley. And he is confident of securing the signature of Long Eaton United’s talented midfielder or striker Andy Cowlishaw.
Cowlishaw, 26, who was in the United side drubbed 3-0 by Rovers in last season’s Derbyshire Senior Cup, has been recommended to Northwood by Leicester City, who were interested in the player until they learned of his age.
Northwood last night secured the services of a string of star players from last season’s side, which finished third in the league, among them skipper Richard Denby, keeper Bob Aston, player-of-the-year Gil Land, Brian Beresford, Paul Acklam, Martin Dick and Steve Astley.
And he also brought local youngsters Shaun Scope, Brian McIntosh and Duncan Evans onto the club books saying: “They’re all young lads and we want youngsters like them who are looking to challenge for a place in the first team. We start training on July 10 and anyone who fancies their chances is welcome to come along.”
