Gresley, Romans facing play-off
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers and Rocester could be forced into a sudden death play-off for a place in the Beazer Homes League.
Players from both teams have already packed their boots away for next season but could now be asked to turn out again in an all or nothing battle. The play-off situation would only be a last ditch measure to sort out the complicated promotion picture but the Beazer League confirmed today that the provision is there if necessary.
The possibility of a play-off game has been made more likely by the large number of promotion applicants this year.
At least seven clubs are hoping to gain a place in the Beazer Midland next season and have applied for ground grading.
Only teams passing the ground inspection will be in the running for promotion and priority will then be given to clubs with the best final league positions.
But it is possible that some teams may not be separated by either criteria forcing a dramatic play-off situation.
If that’s the case Rocester are most likely to face Rothwell Town and Gresley to take on Evesham United in a final promotion battle.
The picture should become clearer next week when officials meet to discuss promotion issues.
