Grounds for promotion

The promotion aspirations of Gresley Rovers and Rocester came under the detailed scrutiny of the Beazer League ground grading committee yesterday.
The crucial inspections made by the visiting officials could well decide the fate of the two Banks’s League clubs regardless of their final positions in the table. If either Gresley’s Moat Ground or Rocester’s Rivers Field are given thumbs down then they will be scrubbed from the list of promotion hopefuls.
The three-strong committee spent nearly two hours at Rocester yesterday.
Romans’ boss Alan Beaman said: “ They didn’t give anything away. However, they did comment on the tremendous strides Rocester Football Club have taken and congratulated us on our efforts.”
Gresley chairman Peter Hall showed the committee plans for the new stand which will soon be built at the Moat Ground.
He said: “We are getting on well with the work and showed them what we intended to do. They told us they are making 16 inspections altogether and that they had done five the day before. As we are just one of 16 clubs all we can do now is hope.”
