Skeemer earns glowing tribute

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood today paid tribute to the club’s longest-serving player, defender Ray Skeemer.
Skeemer has battled back into the first team after languishing in the reserves for more than a season and Northwood said: “Ray’s having an excellent spell. I made him my man-of-the-match at Hinckley on Boxing Day.“He’s a great clubman, too. As far as I can remember he’s the only player still at the club from when I joined the best part of five years ago.”
The Sutton Coldfield schoolteacher teams up with Gil Land tonight when Rovers meet Stourport Swifts in a Banks’s League game at the Moat Ground (7.30pm).
Steve Astley is likely to be switched to a role in midfield as Rovers attempt to run Tuesday’s disappointing display out of their system.
