Much travelled defender Carl Nicklin reckons he’ll be back in the Beazer Homes League next season – as a Gresley Rovers player.
The Wolverhampton carpenter this week linked up with Moat chief Frank Northwood for the third time in a much-travelled career after serving under veteran supremo at Malvern and Wolverhampton United.

But the 27-year-old utility player didn’t feel out of place when he first arrived at the Moat Ground at the weekend after his transfer from Beazer Midlands outfit Stourbridge.

“Of course, I know Frank from previous clubs. But I also know players like Steve Astley and Tracey Norton, who I played with at Oldbury United, and I’ve played against several of the current Gresley squad. I know they’re a good set of lads who play entertaining, attacking football.

“I’m coming to a successful club with good players, good facilities, a good pitch and training facilities. And another big attraction was the prospect of playing in front of big crowds at the Moat Ground. In fact everything about Gresley is geared to making a step up at the end of the season,” Nicklin said.

“I can’t see anyone stopping Gresley from going into the Beazer Homes League next season. And I know they would be at least a top six side in that division. It’s hard to get out of the Banks’s League – Tamworth and Atherstone are examples of that. But once they’d gone up they did well. And Gresley will do the same.”
