Alan's all for change

Caretaker boss Alan Titterton is looking for two things as his Moat Ground reign continues into the New Year - flexibility and competition.
Titterton has enjoyed a successful spell since taking over at the helm following the recent sacking of Brian Kenning, losing just twice, but he admits he is still learning about his squad and also wants to bring new faces in - although he admits the latter will be difficult until his future becomes clearer.

He has deliberately chopped and changed his teams, both through necessity of having injuries and a hectic schedule and to assess exactly what talent he has at his disposal.

There have also been changes of formation, and Titterton believes it is vital that his side can change their style of play - even in middle of games.

Said Titterton: "I am determined that the team will not pick itself. I believe in having competition for places as it keeps players on their toes and it helps you get the best out of them if other players in the squad are breathing down their necks.

"I would like to bring in new faces and I will be talking to the chairman about that, but I know what is happening with the manager's position and where I stand."

Titterton has brought in striker Justin O'Reilly and midfielder Mark Dennis from Burton Albion, although they have yet to have a significant impact on the team, O'Reilly struggling for fitness and Dennis having made just one substitute appearance.

"Mark was disappointed at not being in the squad on Tuesday and he wants regular games," said Titterton.

"Justin has not shown his best form as yet because he is struggling with his fitness but I believe he will be a good asset to the club,"

O'Reilly was one of three strikers in the line-up against Rocester, a ploy which Titterton himself admits did not come off.

"That system did not work in that game but we need to be able to play in different ways," he said.

"We do tend to change styles during games and the players are experienced enough to do that, we just instruct them from the bench.

"The players have been together for a long time now and we change things around quite often, and it has been working for us - just look at when we came back from 2-0 down to get a draw against RC Warwick.

"You can't just wave a magic wand and change things around but I think we have done well lately."
