Glover fits the bill

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood has moved to strengthen his defence by putting in seven days’ notice of a bid for Blakenall centre half Graham Glover.
Said Northwood: “He’s about 33, but he’s a good, experienced player who played in Blakenall’s championship winning side last season.Northwood hope to be able to choose from his strongest squad of the summer when Rovers defend the Johnson Cup against Burton Albion at the Moat Ground on Saturday.
Gresley’s pre-season preparations have been badly disrupted by unavailability. Skipper Dean Page is still recovering from a cartilage operation while honeymooning striker Tracey Norton also faces a lay-off.
Key midfielder Richard Denby, on holiday, and defensive kingpin Martin Haskins have yet to take part in Gresley’s pre-season build-up.
New boy Steve Cant is also injured while last season’s top scorer Paul Acklam missed Tuesday’s win over Stapenhill with a bruised heel.
But Northwood expects to field a stronger side against Chris Wright’s in-form Brewers.
He said: “Paul Acklam will play against Burton; Denby will be back, and Jon Laws, who has been training really well.”
