Striker Andy Maddocks has answered a Gresley Rovers SOS – less than two weeks after being sacked by manager Frank Northwood.
Maddocks has been dramatically reinstated for tonight’s important Moat Ground clash with Oldbury United (7.30pm) because main striker Paul Acklam is nursing a broken wrist after a work accident.

Northwood said last night: “Andy was disappointed when I got rid off him, but agreed to help us out if we were stuck for players.”

Northwood is expecting a tough test as the Banks’s League title chase begins to take shape.

And the match is given added spice because Northwood is on the brink of signing one of Oldbury’s top players, midfielder Steve Snaith.

The Black Country side have refused to waive Gresley’s seven days’ notice, but Northwood hopes to complete the deal in time for Saturday’s trip to champions Blakenall.

Snaith was left out of Oldbury’s team on Saturday and is not expected to play tonight.
