Optimistic Gresley boss Frank Northwood pledged last night: “We’ll go up next season as champions!”
Northwood, who missed out on the Banks’s League title yet again this season by finishing just one point behind champions Blakenall insisted Gresley would do it next time.“I don’t think it’ll be hard to motivate the boys next season because we missed out on the title this time round,” said Northwood.
“We felt we were the best team in the league and we’re all bitterly disappointed. But this season’s team will be staying together – to win the championship.”
Northwood was speaking after hearing that Gresley had been refused admission to the Beazer Homes Midland Division and said: “When we find out what’s wrong with the ground we’ve got the people to put it right. There’s no-one more disappointed than me but you have to swallow that and get on with it. We’ll go about winning the title in the same way as we’ve played this year – with attractive, attacking football. Okay, Blakenall won the league – with the sort of football that drives fans away. I’ll never resort to that style.”
