Rovers in the dark
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers have still not been told the reasons why their application to join the Beazer Homes League Midland Division was refused, despite receiving a bungled rejection letter.
The club received the official letter yesterday – four days after the decision was made, even that was wrong and had to be corrected by a second one.

Rovers’ treasurer Peter Jenkinson revealed the first letter, from Beazer League secretary Dennis Strudwick, wrongly read: “I regret to inform you that you have been accepted…..”

Strudwick apologised for the mistake in the second letter, saying: “I regret to inform you that you have not been accepted… and regret the mistake in the first letter.”

Jenkinson expressed his frustration at being kept in the dark about why Gresley were rejected: “He said it may take two or three days before we know why. Warwick got in but I understand they have very little. We have just spent £2,500 on lifting the centre of the pitch. We have spent £20,000 on floodlights.

“But when they send us a report we will endeavour to get it up to the standard required for the Beazer Homes League. We are still intent on going up, hopefully next season.”

Beazer Homes’ Dennis Strudwick refused to disclose the reason for Gresley’s rejection, saying he wanted to write to the club first.

“I have advised the club that they didn’t pass the grading unfortunately. I don’t like doing that. I am in the process of writing the report and they should get that some time this week.”

Neither would he say why RC Warwick were promoted revealing only : “Warwick have some work to do and I will be writing to them.”
