Gresley boss Frank Northwood is predicting the Banks’s League title race will “go right to the last day” after an extraordinary turn of events on Saturday.
For while Rovers have regained their form with three straight wins main rivals Blakenall and Halesowen Harriers have suddenly hit trouble.

As Rovers were avenging two earlier defeats this season by pipping Hinckley Town at the Moat Ground, Blakenall and Harriers both surprisingly lost.

Blakenall, with only one league defeat this season a week ago, crashed to their second reversal in three days, losing 4-2 at home to Oldbury.

And Harriers, Rovers Banks’s League Cup opponents next month, were beaten 1-0 at Tipton Town.

To add to Rovers’ joy, the other two title-chasers, Rushall and Paget, both drew.

Said Northwood: “It’ll go right to the end now. The lads have got the bit between their teeth again. We played so well that Paul Acklam, who was sitting on the bench, said: ‘I’m not going to get back into the side while they’re playing like this – but I don’t care as long as the lads keep winning.’

“That’s a tremendous attitude and one that everyone must have right to the end of the season.”

Rovers now have only four league games left: all against sides languishing in the lower reaches of the table.

They lead Halesowen, with three games in hand, by six points and Blakenall, with four in hand, by eight, with Halesowen and Blakenall still to meet.
