Frank: Cup fans can be winners

Frank Northwood believes Gresley Rovers’ fans hold the key to the destiny of tonight’s fascinating FA first qualifying round replay at the Moat Ground (7.30pm).
Rovers meet Northern Premier Leaguers Gainsborough Trinity – after being roared to a 2-2 draw at Northolme on Saturday. And manager Northwood said last night: “Our fans were terrific on Saturday. There must have been about 150 of them at the game and they gave the players a lift.
“It’s super to have people like these around and I’m just pleased for their sakes that we brought Gainsborough back to Gresley.
I’m sure that if they get behind us tonight we can finish the job off.”
But Northwood believes the Lincolnshire side will be a tough proposition.
“There’s no way we’re going to beat them 6-0. I’ll be a very happy man if it finishing 1-0 to us,” said the Gresley chief.
“It’s a big night for us. Our new lights go on for the first time and I hope the attraction of that brings in a few more supporters.”
Northwood has delayed naming his team until he knows whether John Bottomley – a second-half substitute on Saturday – is available because of work commitments. Steve Dolby has been put on stand-by.
