Frank keeps up search for keeper

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood was still scouring the Midlands for a goalkeeper today – on the eve of the prestigious Johnson Cup clash against Burton Albion at Eton Park (3pm).
Northwood has ruled out skipper Bob Aston, who needed hospital treatment after injuring a shoulder at Atherstone in midweek. Now he may be forced to turn to former England schoolboy international Steve Crocker as Rovers defend the cup they won when it was last contested in 1985.
Northwood said today: “Bob could play at a push, but the risk is that he could put himself out of action for the season. As far as I’m concerned this is just another pre-season game. The result isn’t important – as long as we win!”
The Gresley boss also has to await the outcome of a fitness test on summer recruit Ian Wells before naming his side.
The former Hereford United striker was unable to train last night after aggravating the groin injury which forced him to retire from League football.
With manager Bobby Hope tonight returning from a short holiday in Scotland, Albion delay naming their side.
As the search continues for a midfield replacement for broken leg victim Colin Caddick, however, there is a possibility that the Brewers may include a new face in their squad.
And Hope is also expected to use the game to make a final decision on his first-choice keeper, with former Kettering man Nick Goodwin – still to sign – and Tony Moore involved in a tussle for supremacy.
