Thumbs up for Gresley

Planners have given Gresley Rovers the go-ahead to erect new floodlights costing £20,000.
Although the Moat Ground has boasted lights for three years, Rovers formally had to seek council approval because the new pylons are higher than the ones they are to replace.Work on the project – the biggest in the club’s 106-year history – will start immediately and should be completed in time for their first home midweek game in the Banks’s League Premier Division.
The lights – being supplied by Phillips – will be up to Football League standard.
Secretary Peter Jenkinson said today: “Phillips have carried out tests they have assured us that the average lux value will be around the 200 mark – and that’s as good as some clubs in the Third and Fourth Division. In places the light should measure as much as 230 or 240 – so obviously the new lights will be a vast improvement on the old ones.”
The work means that Gresley’s midweek pre-season games will kick off at 7pm because the old lights – shortly to find a new home at Lincoln United – will be out of commission.
Rovers’ preparations for the new campaign continue on Saturday at home to Chesterfield in the annual challenge match for the Centenary Rose Bowl.
