Manager Frank Northwood believes Gresley Rovers’ other ‘team’ holds the key to the club’s chase for the Banks’s League Premier Division title.
Rovers meet Wednesfield Social at the Moat Ground tonight (7.30pm) with victory essential if they are to stay in touch with leaders Oldbury United. And last night Northwood claimed: “Our fans can be as important tonight as the team.” He explained: “I’m hoping they’ll turn out in force and get right behind the boys. The Derbyshire Cup semi-final against Buxton showed how a crowd can help lift a team. We’ll need that sort of support again because this is going to be a very tough game.”
“Wednesfield never give you anything and they won’t be coming to Gresley to do us any favours at this stage of the season. All the pressure will be on us, while they can go out and enjoy themselves.”
Northwood is forced to make changes because midfielder Jon Laws and winger Gary Stevens are unavailable. Their absences probably mean recalls for Clive Arthur and Keith Hill.
