Following last weekend's defeat at Skegness Town, the club announced that manager Carl Abbott has decided to step away from his role as first team manager indefinitely. As a result, the interim management team of Paul Tomlinson and club chairman Gary Norton will take charge of the team for the first time. Tomlinson is vastly experienced as both a coach and manager in his own right, as is Norton, who has managed nearly 700 games for the club during previous spells. The hope is that they can use their combined experience to stabilise the team in the interim following Abbotts decision to step away from his role, with the club's board of directors set to meet next week to discuss next steps.More...
Rovers currently sit in 15th place in the United Counties League Premier Division North having won just 4 times in 17 games. They have played more league games than every other team (apart from Wisbech Town also 17) and need to start picking up much needed wins if they are to move up the table. Boston are just 3 places above Rovers in the standings in 12th place and are 5 points ahead but have notably played 4 games fewer than their visitors tomorrow.
Suspensions and injuries continue to heavily impact squad selection, but on the positive side, this continues to provide opportunities for some of the club's younger and developing players. The new management team has also added a fresh face to the squad, signing midfielder Liam Kavanagh to help address the current availability issues.
Jacob Sturgess, who was this week added to the interim coaching staff, returns to the squad after serving a one-match ban for accumulating 5 bookings, however, captain Alby Lansdowne and striker Jenson Cooper will serve the second game of their 3-match bans following their sending’s off against Deeping Rangers on October 19th.
On the injury front, Kane Lee (knee) and Will Robinson (hamstring) picked up injuries during last week's game and join Harrison Soloman and Jack Andrews on the injury list. Soloman has missed the last few games with an ankle injury and it was confirmed this week that the former Derby County defender is awaiting a minor surgical procedure in the next couple of weeks to hopefully correct the issue. The experienced Jack Andrews trained on Tuesday but unfortunately has had some slight reaction to his Achilles tendonitis issue and so has been advised to take at least another 2-3 weeks rehabilitation in a bid to try and resolve the issue once and for all. Louis Anthony, Dylan Hunniford, and Ryan King were at training but did not take part in the session during the week as a precaution due to knocks picked up last weekend. However, they are expected to be fit for selection against Boston.
Given the ongoing selection challenges, 16-year-old Phil Kowalski, who impressed in his 60-minute substitute appearance last weekend, is under consideration for a start, as is Ethan Goodfellow, who performed well after replacing Kane Lee late in the first half last week. 17-year-old Stevie Savage, another one who has been doing well this season in the U18s side is once again included in the squad after making his debut last weekend at Skegness Town.
In other news it has today been confirmed that talisman striker Ste Hart, who left last month by mutual consent, will return to the club. Hart will be available from Tuesday and will feature in the Derbyshire Cup 2nd round game against Ashbourne at the Moat Ground, 7.45pm kick off.
